Project RSX – New Year New Engine + Boost

Project RSX – New Year New Engine + Boost: It’s taking the place of my Type R so it needs some power!

By Brian Gillespie

The Civic Type R I’ve been driving daily is going to be out of commission as we do some R&D on the engine and cooling. I’m a little bummed. It has totally spoiled me. I’m gonna need a fast car that’s not embarrassing ugly to replace it. Looking around at all the projects, the one that may be easiest to put together is Project RSX. That’s a perfect excuse to drop a better engine into the RSX and, what the heck, throw some boost on it for good measure.

So Project RSX is getting a makeover. We’re polishing this turd and changing the name to project “RSXEE.” Will it be sexy? My budget makes that unlikely, but I do have enough parts to make it fast and that’s a start. (Hey, fast is sexy too!-AG) It just so happens I recently pulled the supercharged K24 from the Eibach CRZ so we’ll start with that.

Project RSX will fill the roll as my daily driver while we pull the Type R apart. It needs a fair amount of work to take the place of the Type R though.

The goal is 400 horsepower with the stock block K24A2 and a Jackson Racing Supercharger. 400 horsepower has to be a record with a supercharger that was originally designed to increase horsepower moderately. We’re going to be spinning this supercharger way faster than it was designed and that’s going to create some heat.

This is gonna help us keep the air charge and engine temps down. A radiator and intercooler combo to fit in the stock radiator location.

In order to deal with the heat, I’ve going to be using a new product that will allow me to add an air to air intercooler. I’ll also be designing an intercooler and radiator combo to go in the stock radiator location. I also hope to have AC in the future, but that’s a different can of worms.

First order of business is to pull the old engine out. Chris Sadowski of the ChrisSadowski YouTube channel on hand to lend a hand. Repetitious, I know.
