Keep Moving Forward: Dadmobile gets more upgrades.

By Aaron Gaghagen

It would be awesome to upgrade Project Dadmobile in huge steps like they do on JDM Legends or something like that. But for me, like the majority of car enthusiasts, things don’t move at that pace. Back in the day money was the biggest hurdle to making big strides, but now time is also at a premium. So, my progress is broken up in to many steps and hopefully they will all add up to making Dadmobile a more fun daily driver that be pushed more on the track or back roads.

That brings us to the most recent round of upgrades that will help build a solid base for future modifications. Lately starting Project Dadmobile has been getting slower and slower. Since the alternator was just replaced this summer, I figured this would be a golden opportunity step up to a Yellowtop battery from Optima Batteries. They are way more rugged and vibration resistant than the typical battery from the local automotive store or big box mart. The Optima Yellowtop is perfect for our modern cars which tend to rely more on electronics than previous generations. The strong deep-cycle characteristics are great at stuff like charging our iPhones, computers and camera batteries when we’re away from the garage for shoots.

While the battery was going to be out, I figured it’d be a good time to change out those old factory ground wires. Enter RUNHARD Industries and their Raychem DR-25 based ground kit for the FA5 Civic. This kit is beefy! From the heavy gauge cable to the copper core terminals protected with corrosion resistant tin and air tight adhesive impregnated shrink wrap, these wires should be in it for the long haul.
