HPD Turn-key Civic Type R Race Car

HPD Turn-key Civic Type R Race Car: Go race now!

By Aaron Gaghagen

The FK8 Civic Type R is the ultimate performance production front-wheel-drive car. Yeah, I know Renault Megane RS Trophy-R currently has the quickest Nürburgring time, but that’s deceiving. That Renault is only technically a production car, as that version is an extremely limited version of their Type R fighter. For the record, the Megane RS Trophy-R needed carbon fiber wheels, an Akrapovič exhaust, Brembo brakes, Öhlins suspension components and 268 pounds in weight reduction to beat the Civic. Oh, and that car retails at $87,500 and some change, more than double the true FF King’s MSRP. We all know if Honda wanted to, they could do a special edition of the Type R that would SLAY the Renault in the same manner that their engines do in F1.

So, naturally the Civic Type R should translate into a world-beating race car. Easy peasy, right? Well, sort of. Legitimate racing series can have complex rules and requirements for parity and safety. Navigating this can be tough when all you wanna do is go fast, mamma! #rickybobby This is where HPD AKA Honda Performance Development comes to the rescue with the Civic Type R TC. It is designed as a turn-key car for professional racers and for gentleman racers who wish to go from track time in a stock Type R to a fully built race car for the low entry price of $89,900. Sure, that’s some serious coin, but if you’re serious about racing you could spend that much in just development. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

Earlier this year we had the opportunity to check out the Civic Type R TC in the flesh getting fine tuned at the track with driver extraordinaire Kevin Boehm behind the wheel. We talked with him and the HPD team about this special Type R.
