CSS to VSS Wiring: Getting the signal your swap needs
By Brian Gillespie and Aaron Gaghagen

The transmission you choose to use for your K swap determines certain things for your installation. Things like shifter and shifter cables need to match the action of the gear selector on the transmission. Another thing that the transmission determines is how your car gets the speed signal. There are basically two ways that Honda K series transmissions relay the speed signal. The transmission will use either a countershaft speed sensor, a CSS for short, or a vehicle speed sensor, typically referred to as a VSS.

In this video Brian shows how to wire a K series engine harness that was previously used with a transmission using CSS to be used with a transmission using VSS. Using his method of adding a VSS connector will allow you to keep the option of changing back to a transmission using a CSS in the future.
