Throwback 4WS Prelude Commercial

This throwback 4WS Prelude commercial showcases the technology Honda is famous for.

By Aaron Gaghagen

Back in the day before every advertisement was a sad attempt to go viral, commercials on television had to be catchy, annoying or clever to be successful. After all, unless you recorded the show you were watching on a (gulp!) video tape, you may never see a commercial more that once or twice while watching television. Honda has a long history of making commercials that make people remember them. That brings us to this throwback commercial for the 1990 Honda Prelude Si with four wheel steering. It uses a twist on a classic nursery rhyme to showcase the 4WS system on the Prelude Si.

The commercial truly shows the 4WS Prelude system at work by including a shot that features the rear wheel turning and returning to its straight position. Bonus points for the soundtrack that transports us to a world where Michael Jordan had yet to win a single NBA Championship title and Pokemon cards hadn’t hit the USA.

The 1990 Honda Prelude Si was a low and lean sporty coupe that was already rather nimble. Of course, Honda had to take it up a notch with the addition of the 4WS!

Nothing but Hondas. That’s exactly what you’ll find at VTEC Academy. Not because some of the other automakers’ cars that inherently drain the life out of the driving experience bore us, but because Soichiro Honda’s passion for motorsports and his company’s ability to express that in the machines they produce make a whole lot of sense.

VTEC Academy is a place for Honda fans who feel the same way and who seek the most accurate technical information and commentary to continue that very legacy and make whatever Honda it is that they drive just a little bit better. And faster.

The editors and contributors of VTEC Academy are some of the industry’s most experienced and trusted, which means the informative, unique perspectives you need are all right here. And, like you, we’re also obsessed with Hondas.

So, subscribe to our channel and hit us up at vtecacademy.com or, if you’re into social media, you can get your daily dose of VTEC Academy on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. We’re always on the look out for cool and fast Hondas.
