Civic Type R Greddy SP Exhaust and PRL Intercooler Install

Civic Type R Greddy SP Exhaust and PRL Intercooler installThe FK8 gets upgrades!

By Aaron Gaghagen

The FK8 Civic Type R has been described as a “cheat code” car and we cannot disagree with that assessment. Straight out of the box it punches above it’s weight class, but after removing the engine and transmission then putting it back and driving it for a while, we’re ready to make some upgrades.

Turbo engines love to breathe freely. So far we have a US Racing down tube and we’re looking to improve even more. Enter the Greddy SP Exhaust. The Greddy SP Exhaust steps up to 3″ diameter pipe to send spent fumes out the back through a polished dual tipped muffler. It looks killer, sounds aggressive and we can’t wait to hit the dyno to get the KTuner dialed in.

Shedding heat can be an issue for the FK8, particularly in Arizona. So to help keep under hood temperature under control so far we have added a US Racing turbo blanket and heat shielding wrap on the intake tubing. The next step to try to keep things cool is to upgrade the intercooler. PRL Motorsports makes a killer looking bar-and-plate intercooler with billet end tanks rated up to 550 horsepower.
