B Series Transmission Check: How to see the wear before we swap.

By Brian Gillespie

We grabbed a transmission from our pile of parts to use for a new turbo project. The outside looks a little worse for wear, so we need to open it up and see if it is usable. So we piled into the Ridgeline to travel across town and have Bryant Robinson from Built by Notorious check it out.

Bryant has a house full of Hondas and some pretty interesting projects. He built a turbo powered cage car from and Integra, swapped a K-series into his wife’s Kia Soul and built a J37 powered Integra road racing car.

But the real reason we’re here is the transmission. Bryant cracks open our transmission to do a B series transmission check. He shows us what to look for when inspecting the gears. It looks a little cooked and there is some damage. So, is it salvageable? Bryant will let us know.
