Acura Unveils NSX GT3 Race Liveries

Acura unveils NSX GT3 race liveries to debut at the Rolex 24.

This month Acura revealed what the Acura Motorsports and Michael Shank Racing team NSX GT3 will look like for its debut at the Rolex 24 on January 28-29 at Daytona International Speedway, the opening round of the 12-race 2017 WeatherTech Championship.

The #86 NSX, commemorates Acura's establishment back in 1986. It will have a black to white scheme using a wild grey "crosshatch" graphic as a transition. Ryan Hunter-Reay, Ozz Negri, Jeff Segal and Tom Dyer will pilot this race car.

The #93 NSX get its designation from 1993, the year HPD was founded. This car will reverse the color pattern, with a white front transitioning to a black rear with the same grey graphics to provide drama. Drivers for the #93 NSX will be Graham Rahal, Andy Lally, Katherine Legge and Mark Wilkins.

The seemingly random use of orange and green are anything but random. The orange represents Acura and has been used to represent the brand in racing since the beginning. The green indicates that the cars are GT Daytona class entries.

 

All eight drivers will take part in the January 6-8 “Roar Before the 24”, IMSA series open test at Daytona to shake out the cars and work out any issues prior to the series opener. It’ll be exciting to see how the all-new Acura NSX GT3 performs. If its predecessor is any indication of future success, then Acura will have to make room in the trophy case.
