23 Jul Acura to Spice Up Monterey Car Week

You don’t care about Monterey Car Week and all of its poshness and neither does the rest of the Honda performance crowd, but this year might be the exception. That’s mostly because of Acura, who says it’s set for an NSX-centric presence throughout the week’s events that include Pebble Beach’s iconic Concours d’Elegance and the equally lavish The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.

HondaJet will be a sponsor here, too, because, well, you know, the kind of crowd Monterey Car Week attracts is the kind of crowd that’s got to have some way to get to their private islands. It’ll all start at Gordon McCall’s prestigious Motorworks Revival where Acura will make its debut. Included in the display will be the new NSX and a replica of the 2015 McLaren-Honda MP4-30 Formula 1 car. The Motorworks Revival happens August 12th in the Monterey Jet Center; not that you’ll be going or anything.

Acura's second-generation supercar is set to take its place with its bespoke 75-degree twin-turbo V6 engine paired with a 9-speed dual-clutch transmission and three-electric-motor SH-AWD system.

Acura’s racing history will also be on display in the form of the infamous Comptech Racing Spice Acura GTP Lights car that originally dominated from 1991 to 1993 at the hands of driver Parker Johnstone who’s reported to get back behind the wheel where he’ll run alongside the all-new NSX at the event’s Historics run. Further Honda racing heritage will show face in the form of Gil de Ferran’s LMP1 car that cinched wins throughout 2009 in the American Le Mans Series.

Acura will also be showcasing its racing heritage in the form of several championship-winning cars, including the back-to-back-to-back Comptech Racing Spice Acura GTP Lights car (shown) and Gil de Ferran's 2009 Acura LMP1 chassis.

Acura also says that it’ll have a first-generation NSX on hand along the way, demonstrating how far the company’s come since introducing the first all-aluminum sports car, VTEC, and all sorts of other advancements.
