2017 Civic Hatchback specs released, manual transmission fans rejoice!

The 2016 Honda Civic is a commercial hit in the USA. The radically restyled body, upgraded interiors and features have resonated with consumers. Hell, Honda even brought a turbo 1.5 liter to the game. But, sadly for purists and enthusiasts, Honda didn’t offer a manual transmission option to get all that turbo-ey (Yes, I know it’s not a real word, but it should be! AG) goodness to the wheels. That is, until now with the release of the 2017 Civic Hatchback.

Five trim levels will be available with the new hatchback which should be on showroom floors and dealer lots for purchase by this time next week. The good news is, like we reported earlier, that all of the 2017 Civic Hatchbacks will be turbo and start around $19,700.

Honda just dropped all the specifications for the new Civic Hatchback so we now know exactly what each level of trim will offer. The six-speed manual will not be offered on the higher levels of trim on the new hatchback. Some people think this is because Honda does not believe manual drivers will spring for the more expensive versions, but we suspect that it is because Honda does not want to cannibalize buyers of the not-yet-announced Civic Si. We are cool with that as long as the new Si makes it worthwhile and we think it will be.

All trim levels are equipped with a 1.5-liter DOHC direct-injected and turbocharged engine with 174 horsepower in LX, EX and EX-L Navi trims, and 180 horsepower in the Sport and Sport Touring trims which feature a dual-outlet center-mounted exhaust and are designed to benefit from premium unleaded fuel.

The six-speed manual LX and Sport models both feature Honda’s new Low-Inertia MONO Turbocharger. While the more expensive Sport model makes only 6 more horsepower than the LX, it develops 10lb-ft. more torque at a very non-Civic 177lb-ft. from 1,900 to 5,000 RPM.

The 2017 Civic Hatchback was developed by Honda R&D teams in Europe and Japan and is manufactured for the U.S. market exclusively by Honda of the UK Manufacturing in its Swindon, UK plant.

You can build your new 2017 Civic Hatchback here on the Honda website and spec it out the way you exactly like it to see how that will affect the price.

Nothing but Hondas. That’s exactly what you’ll find at VTEC Academy.
